Season one of “Best House on the Block,” a home makeover show based in our area, premiered Thursday, November 8 on the DIY network with back-to-back episodes at 11 and 11:30 p.m. The show features Lauren and David Liess, owners of Lauren Liess, an interior design and textiles firm in Great Falls. In each episode, they take a house from a cookie cutter neighborhood in Northern Virginia, DC or Maryland and make it unique by renovating and redecorating.
During each 30-minute episode, Lauren and David renovate a home and apply their signature style, which has been described as elegant but inviting and modern meets rustic. They team with Mike Carr of CarrMichael Construction to accomplish any remodeling work at the sites. In the first two episodes, the team updated a 1940s Cape Cod in Falls Church and a 1960s split foyer in Vienna.
A pilot for the show aired on HGTV in 2017, and then the couple spent the spring filming the first season. Lauren promises to provide insights into the reasoning behind each episode’s designs on her blog Pure Style Home.
In addition to their design and textile business, TV show, Lauren’s blog and raising their five children, Lauren is working on her second book. Her first book, Habitat: The Field Guide to Decorating, was published in 2015.
Catch the next episode of “Best House on the Block” on Wednesday, November 21 at 8:00 p.m., and watch as Lauren and David transform a 1970s contemporary home into a modern masterpiece.
