The Vienna Metro will be shut down for the summer, while a nearby station will remain open with limited service.
The Vienna Metro and two other Orange Line stations will be closed between Memorial Day and Labor Day in 2020, Metro announced Wednesday. The seven-mile stretch of the Orange Line will see its platforms reconstructed as part of the Platform Improvement Project.
The Vienna, Dunn Loring and East Falls Church stations will be closed. West Falls Church will remain open because two of its platforms can be under construction at a time. Riders should expect single tracking and less frequent service.East Falls Church will be closed to riders, but Orange and Silver Line trains will pass through using a single track. Silver Line stations from McLean to Wiehle-Reston East will be open but with reduced service.
Metro plans to announce free shuttle buses and other alternative transportation for riders in March.
The 2020 summer shutdown follows the shutdown of six Yellow and Blue Line stations south of Reagan National Airport in summer 2019. Metro also planned to shut down four Green and Yellow Line stations in Prince George’s County next summer, but this work will be rescheduled due to costs. Stations slated for platform reconstruction in the future are Addison Road, Arlington Cemetery, Cheverly, College Park-U of Md, Greenbelt, Landover, New Carrollton, Prince George’s Plaza, Reagan National Airport and West Hyattsville.
