86th Historic Garden Week in McLean
Tuesday, April 30, 2019
Hosted by the Garden Club of Fairfax
On Tuesday, April 30, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., The Garden Club of Fairfax hosts this year’s Historic Garden Week Tour in McLean, Virginia. Explore five picturesque gardens and four exciting private homes spanning four centuries. History buffs and garden enthusiasts will delight in the mix of historic, traditional and contemporary properties, including a home built in 1754 with ties to the Revolution and later used as a hospital during the Civil War, an “Ordinary” built in 1842 with all its Star Spangled glory, a Tuscan inspired villa, and a contemporary Japanese influenced home built on a hillside with amazing terraced gardens and fun child’s playhouse. The magnificent Garden Only property is an oasis that visitors will never want to leave. Enjoy the exquisite floral arrangements designed by club members showcased in each home. What a great way to spend a Spring Day…and get lots of ideas!
As part of the Garden Club of Virginia’s 86th Historic Garden Week, our tour will be one of thirty-one statewide tours held April 27-May 4, 2019, featuring nearly 200 of Virginia’s most picturesque gardens and private homes. Historic Garden Week is the nation’s only statewide home and garden tour and is touted as “America’s Largest Open House”. Proceeds from this celebrated event fund the restoration and preservation of more than 50 of Virginia’s historic public gardens, landscapes and more. Iconic landmarks such as Mount Vernon, the Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library, and Green Spring Gardens, locally, have been restored to their original splendor due to the hard work of thousands of volunteers, the generosity of countless home and garden owners, and the nearly 25,000 visitors from around the world who enjoy the tours each year. For 86 years, Historic Garden Week tours have contributed to both Virginia and regional economies as well.
Tour headquarters are at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1205 Dolley Madison Boulevard, McLean, VA. Complimentary refreshments will be served from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
