Reston Now reports that on March 21st, Elizaveta (Liza) Godlevskaia became Virginia’s elementary school winner of its Thank a Teacher Art Contest, sponsored by the Virginia lottery.  Secretary of Education Atif Qarni joined representatives from the Virginia Lottery, FCPS Fine Arts Office, Aldrin school administrators, students, and Godlevskaia’s parents in surprising the 5th grader at a school assembly last Thursday afternoon.

As part of the prize, Godlevskaia received a $150 gift card, and her school’s art department received $1000.  Godlevskaia’s original artwork will be featured on thousands of thank you cards to be mailed to teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week, May 6th.
