Gridlock alert: Fairfax County announces summer Metro station closures

Michael Dranove Transportation, Tysons Update

According to a March 15th press release from Fairfax County, six blue and yellow line Metro stations will be closed between May 25th (Memorial Day), and September 2nd (Labor Day).  Metro says the station closures are a part of its three year Platform Improvement project, and the round the clock work will, “completely reconstruct the outdoor platforms at 20 Metrorail stations, making them safer and more accessible for customers with disabilities, while also addressing safety concerns and longstanding structural issues.”

Although Metro will try to compensate for the station closures by providing increased Metrobus service, the County urges commuters to, “consider other alternatives such as ridesharing and telework, whenever possible, as the free shuttles and enhanced transit service will only partially replace the lost train capacity.”
