Reston Farmers Market opens 2019 season tomorrow

The Reston Farmers Market returns to Lake Anne Plaza tomorrow after a four month hiatus. Held every Saturday from 8-12, the Market draws around 30 farmers selling produce, eggs, meat, live plants, and freshly cut flowers.

The Market began in 1997 with a group calling themselves the Friends of the T.O.M.A.T.O. (The Organic Market At Tall Oaks). After failing to secure a location at Tall Oaks Center, the Friends got help from the Fairfax County Park Authority to set up in Lake Anne Plaza. The Friends held their first Market with 12 farmers in May, 1998.

Now, the event has grown far beyond its humble origins. Farmers are eager to participate, and all farmers living within 125 miles of Fairfax County are invited to join. Some wake up as early as 1:45 to prepare their food and equipment for the Market.
