On April 24th, the Fairfax County Planning Commission approved a temporary hotel permit for 150 units at the luxury apartment building, The Rise. Located on the corner of Greensboro Avenue and Westpark Drive, the building is just one part of the massive development, The Boro, pictured above.
Working with the startup WhyHotel, the plan is to turn finished apartments into something resembling a cross between an Airbnb and a hotel. Guests will get an apartment style experience, while also enjoying the convenience of a full-time hospitality staff. WhyHotel currently operates hotels at apartment buildings in Baltimore’s National Harbor and the NoMa neighborhood of Washington DC. Speaking at the Planning Commission meeting on April 24th, WhyHotel CEO Jason Fudin emphasized the role WhyHotel hopes to play in helping The Boro mitigate deficits that large apartment developments accrue before the end of their first leasing cycle.
