To Celebrate 31 years of service to the community, The Old Firehouse in McLean will hold a family friendly Block Party on September 18

The Old Firehouse Center (OFC) in McLean is celebrating 31 years of service to the community with a free community block party on Saturday, Sept. 18. The event will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the street outside the Old Firehouse, which is located at 1440 Chain Bridge Rd. The Old Firehouse is a division of the McLean Community Center (MCC).

Activities to be enjoyed will include live music provided by Bach 2 Rock Music School, a three-sided climbing wall and a mobile arcade truck provided by Fantasy World Entertainment and art stations and access to OFC’s game room, which includes a pool table, table tennis and arcade games. Food and beverages will be provided by Big Cheese and Ben and Jerry’s food trucks and the Old Firehouse will provide free popcorn and beverages as well. The McLean Volunteer Fire Department will be onsite to showcase the history of the Old Firehouse with photos and memorabilia. Patrons who visit all six exhibitions and have their “passports” stamped will be entered in a raffle to win prizes such as gift cards, headphones and speakers, as well as free admissions into upcoming OFC and MCC events.

Old Firehouse General Manager Andrew Carter said this year’s event is special for a number of reasons. “We are excited to be welcoming residents back to in-person events again. The Old Firehouse Block Party gives us the opportunity to engage with the community in our own unique and fun way after the tough times that we’ve all endured. With great food, activities for the whole family, and music from young musicians in the community, it will be a family friendly outdoor event people of all ages can enjoy.”

COVID-19 restrictions will be in place at the event. Everyone is required to wear a mask inside the building and adhere to social distancing guidelines. Hand sanitizing stations will be located inside OFC and at the outside activity stations.
