The Tysons area has many great options for celebrating Independence Day. Live music, food, drinks, parades, and of course fireworks make up this year’s offerings. Here our picks for fun local events to check out this Independence Day.

Some fireworks have been rescheduled from July 4th to other dates due to a shortage of licensed pyrotechnic staff. Be sure to check the date for the event(s) you wish to attend!

Freedom 5K & 1K

A Hometown Celebration

City of Fairfax is launching a new event: A Hometown Celebration at the Veterans Amphitheater (adjacent to City Hall). The event will feature games for all ages, food trucks from Fairfax City businesses — and a concert by the award-winning City of Fairfax Band.

56th Annual Independence Day Celebration

Independence Day Parade

July 4, 10:00 am

The parade steps off from 4100 Chain Bridge Road, rain or shine. The parade loops around Old Town Fairfax, along Chain Bridge Road, Main Street, University Drive, and Armstrong Street. Among the entries in this year’s parade are nine high school marching bands, large inflatable parade balloons, floats, and clowns.

The Recreation and Parks Department is hosting a 1 day scavenger hunt! Clues will be posted on the City’s social media and webpage at 1pm on Sunday, July 3 with the hunt beginning at 2.

Quantico Marine Corps Band Performance

The Quantico Marine Corps Band is one of the oldest professional musical ensembles in the Marine Corps and plays over 300 community concerts along the Eastern Seaboard every year. Seating will not be provided – guests are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs and a picnic. The concert will be held rain or shine.

Independence Day Parade

Put on your patriotic best and join your friends and neighbors to celebrate the birthday of the United States! This year’s parade will also feature the 14th annual Patriot’s Cup Competition, sponsored by the Loudoun Now newspaper. Back this year is the American Originals Fife and Drum Corps performing at at the intersection of King and Market Street as a prelude to the parade.

Lake Fairfax Park will be holding a fireworks show on July 2, 2022. Ticketed entry begins at 10:00 a.m. The fireworks are expected to start shortly after 9:00 pm. Be sure to arrive early so you can park and find a spot to view the show from. We encourage all visitors to arrive no later than 8:00 p.m. Food trucks will be onsite throughout the day and all picnic areas will be offered on a first-come-first served basis.
