At their meeting on Tuesday, July 25, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors appointed Dranesville Small District 1A resident Matt Colsia to the McLean Community Center (MCC) Governing Board. Dranesville District Supervisor John Foust presented a recommendation that Colsia be appointed to the Board. Colsia replaces MCC Board Member Shivani Saboo, who resigned earlier this month due to a job transition. MCC is located at 1234 Ingleside Ave.
Colsia, who ran as a candidate for the MCC Governing Board earlier this year, received the fourth highest number of votes; however, only three positions were vacant at the time of the election. The MCC’s Memorandum of Understanding with Fairfax County stipulates that should a vacancy occur on the board, the unsuccessful candidate from the most recent board election who received the most votes will be appointed to the departing member’s unexpired term.
Colsia is a three-year resident of McLean and recently retired from the U.S. Army, where he held numerous leadership positions, the most recent as the specialty aeromedical staff officer for National Guard HQ in Arlington, which is responsible for oversight of the National Critical Care Flight Paramedic Program as well as the Aeromedical Evacuation Program. He will begin his service at the next MCC board meeting on Wednesday, July 26.
MCC Executive Director Betsy May-Salazar thanked Saboo for her two years of service on the board. “Shivani has been a dedicated and hard-working member of the board, most recently serving as treasurer and chair of the Elections & Nominations Committee. She championed programs for young adults and brought fresh energy and innovation to all the projects she was assigned to work on. She will certainly be missed, but we wish her all the best in her new endeavors.”
