The McLean Community Center (MCC) offers the following activities in January. Please check the center’s website,, for up-to-date information. Residents of the center’s tax district, Small District 1A-Dranesville, are eligible for discounts on fees. The center is located at 1234 Ingleside Ave.

MCC-Old Firehouse Winter Block Party

Come to MCC for our 2nd Annual Winter Block Party. There will be entertainment, a wide variety of amusements, games, craft projects, food and more for all ages.

Did you ever wonder just what it takes to present a show at The Alden or how each season is put together or what all those things on the ceiling are? Join Technical Director Jennifer Garrett, Performing Arts Director Sarah Schallern Treff and Youth Theatre Programs Director Danielle Van Hook for an informal discussion that will take the mystery out of what goes on behind the curtain.

Parties are also open to 7th and 8th graders. Old Firehouse 5th & 6th grader parties are themed and decorated accordingly. Free catered food and beverages will be distributed to participants. Parties feature a DJ, open dance floor and a variety of activities.

Volunteers: Parents who wish to volunteer for parties must submit an email request to Aaron Greene at Please include your name, your child’s name and a home address. Volunteer hours are 6:30-9:45 p.m. Each parent volunteer receives one free admission for his or her child. Volunteer spots are limited.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration
“Black Music Excellence through the Ages” with Richelle Claiborne

Sunday, January 22

Charlottesville, Va. native Richelle Claiborne brings her joyous ride through the history of African American music across the diaspora to The Alden. It’s more than a soul revue, more than a gospel concert, more than a night of great jazz…it is one part history lesson, one part testimonial and filled with inspired musical performances. Richelle tells a powerful story that includes a Charlottesville not mentioned on the news or social media. Running Time: Approximately 90 minutes.

Teacher Workday Trip: Main Event

We’re going to Main Event! Get ready for bowling, arcade games, AND laser tag! In between all the excitement, we’ll eat some lunch. Admission to all activities and lunch is included in the fee. Bring money for additional arcade credits as desired.

Teacher Workday Trip: Winter Adventures at WISP

Friday, January 27
8:00am – 6:00pm

$110/$100 MCC district residents

Join us as we go snow tubing and ride a mountain coaster at WISP. Admission to both activities is included in the fee. All participants must have an additional waiver signed by a parent or guardian. Bring at least $20 for lunch and additional money for snacks and souvenirs as desired.
