Juried biennial exhibition opens Sept. 14, featuring the work of 50 Mid-Atlantic artists
McLean Project for the Arts (MPA) will open (Not) Strictly Painting 14 on September 14, 2023. Now in its 14th iteration, Strictly Painting celebrates the depth and breadth of paintings, or works related in some way to paintings. This biennial exhibition features pieces from 50 artists throughout the Mid-Atlantic area. An Opening Exhibition Reception will be held on Thursday, September 14 from 7-9pm at MPA. RSVP here.
Juried by Tim Brown, Director of IA&A at Hillyer, (Not) Strictly Painting is regarded as one of the region’s most important painting exhibitions.
“Now in it’s 14th incarnation, (Not) Strictly Painting will exhibit works by some of the most interesting and innovative artists currently active in the Mid-Atlantic region,” said Nancy Sausser, MPA Director of Exhibitions and Curator. “The exhibit was expertly juried by Tim Brown, Director of IA&A at Hillyer.”

In addition to the September 14 Opening Exhibition Reception, an in-person Artist Talk will take place on Thursday, October 19 from 7-9pm.
The MPA Emerson Gallery is open Mondays through Saturdays from 10am–4pm. The Atrium Gallery is available during McLean Community Center operating hours.

As Hillyer Director, Tim Brown serves as lead administrator for the the Hillyer Contemporary art space.
