Town Recognized for Fiscal Excellence

Town of Vienna Talk of Tysons

For the 29th consecutive year, the Town of Vienna is being recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for excellence in budget practices. The Town recently received the GFOA Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the 2022-2023 budget presentation, which reflects the commitment of the Town Council and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. The Town’s finance department was recognized at the regular Town Council meeting on Oct. 23, 2023.

“Year after year, we strive to meet the highest standards set by the GFOA,” said Town Finance Director Marion Serfass. “Creating a budget plan of this magnitude and frequency requires dedication and attention to detail by staff, and a great deal of collaboration and coordination between the finance office, Town departments and the Town Council. We are honored to be recognized and look forward to continuing our steadfast effort to make the budget more meaningful to our residents.”

To receive the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, the Town of Vienna had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well a government’s budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communications device. The Town’s budget presentation and fiscal excellence serves as an example of quality budgeting for governments across the country.

Since 1906, the GFOA has represented public finance officials in local, state and federal agencies throughout the United States and Canada.
