Vienna’s Second Naturalization Ceremony Scheduled for June 29

Town of Vienna Around Town

Since America’s inception, millions of people from all over the world have made the bold decision to renounce allegiance to the country of their birth and take the Oath of Allegiance to become United States citizens. On Saturday, June 29, 2024, 15 people from all walks of life will take that oath during a naturalization ceremony at 5 p.m. at the Vienna Community Center 120 Cherry St., SE, Vienna, VA. Once the oath is administered, the new U.S. citizens will be granted full voting rights and liberties granted to all native-born Americans.

This is the second time a naturalization ceremony will be held in Vienna as part of the Town’s Liberty Amendments Month celebrating the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The first ceremony took place on July 2, 2022, and 15 people from Canada to Congo took the oath became naturalized U.S. citizens.

“This ceremony is so inspiring and reminds those who are native-born Americans of the freedoms and liberties the U.S. Constitution grants to all U.S. citizens – freedoms that are not enjoyed by citizens of other nations,” said Lily Widman, Town of Vienna Parks and Recreation event coordinator. “It’s an honor and a privilege for the Town to work with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to hold this special ceremony during Liberty Amendments Month, and I know this year’s event will be just as inspiring and heartfelt as the inaugural event in 2022.”

This year’s ceremony will feature Girl Scout Troops 50157 and 1489 as they present the colors and lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Remarks will be made by Mayor Linda Colbert, Director of U.S. Trade and Development Enoh Ebong, and USCIS Washington Field Office Acting Director, Juan Wood.

Liberty Amendments Month is an annual, month-long series of events from Juneteenth to July 15 that highlights local history as it relates to the to the 13th, 14th, 15th and 19th Amendments – the “Liberty Amendments.” These Amendments granted full citizenship rights to all U.S. citizens, regardless of race, culture, creed or gender.
