Bright MLS Weekly Market Report

Bright MLS Weekly Market Report

Bright MLS Real Estate

Week Ending September 27, 2026
Washington, D.C. Metro

Summary

  • Showings plummet. Showings across the Bright MLS service area dropped 14.3% year-over-year to 56,397 for the week ending September 27, hitting a four-year low for this week. The slowdown was universal, with every subregion posting annual declines.
  • Purchase contracts remain sluggish. New purchase contracts in the Mid-Atlantic dropped 12.6% year-over-year to 4,578, hitting a four-year low for the week. The decline was widespread across the region, leaving Del/Mar Coastal as the sole sub-region to record annual contract growth.
  • Inventory stays elevated. There were 54,738 active listings for the week, a 17.8% increase in inventory from the same week last year. All sub-regions have maintained healthier inventory this fall than last, but buyers are not leaving the sidelines, and heightened mortgage rates hold them back.
